The
German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), as part
of its global special initiative “Refugees” has commissioned the Deutsche
Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH to implement the
project “New Perspectives through Academic Education and Training for Young
Jordanians and Syrians”.
DAAD Scholarship Programme for Young Jordanians and Syrians 2016 - Germany Scholarship
The project provides scholarships for Master studies at Jordanian universities
for Syrian refugees and disadvantaged Jordanians in hosting communities. The
project also provides human capacity development activities in the field of
conflict management and prevention of violence. The German Academic Exchange
Service (DAAD) as strategic partner of GIZ is responsible for the selection of
graduates, the communication with universities and the administration of the
funding of the scholarships. The aim of the scholarship programme is to
contribute to the education of future leaders, mediators and peacekeepers in
Jordan, to build the basis for the future reconstruction of Syria and to create
new perspectives for young adults living in challenging conditions.
Who
can apply?
Highly qualified Jordanian and Syrian graduates holding a Bachelor degree with
a minimum GPA of 70%.
No more than 6 years should have passed since the completion of the Bachelor
degree. At the time of application, candidates shall not have commenced studies
for a Master degree at another university. Applicants shall intend to actively
contribute to the peaceful co-existence of Syrian refugees and Jordanian
communities.
Jordanian applicants must fulfil the following conditions:
- Jordanian
citizenship
- Permanent
residence in Jordan
- Residence in an
area affected by the influx of Syrian refugees
Syrian applicants must fulfil the following conditions:
- Syrian
citizenship or permanent residence in Syria PRIOR TO 2011
- Residence in
Jordan at the time of application
- UNHCR
Registration
What
can be funded?
Scholarships are provided for Master studies in Jordan in all fields of study
with the exception of medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry and law.
Duration
of the funding
The duration of funding is determined by the standard period of study of the
chosen programme, normally two years, plus 3 months of obligatory preparation
courses for Syrian students starting from 1 June 2016. The start date of the
Master studies at selected Jordanian institutions of higher education is late
September 2016. Scholarship holders can study at one of the following
universities: University of Jordan, German Jordanian University (GJU), Jordan
University of Science and Technology (JUST), or Yarmouk University.
